Footit in Line for Surprise Ashes Debut

18 Jun 2015 | Cricket
Derbyshire pace man Mark Footitt could be in line to make his Test debut at The SSE SWALEC after being named in a 14-man squad for a pre-Ashes training camp.
Footitt is the surprise pick in the group which will prepare for the showpiece series opener to be staged in Cardiff from Wednesday 8 July.

With Trevor Bayliss arriving in the country next Thursday, Trevor, Alastair and I felt it important that both players and management likely to be involved in the early stages of the Investec Ashes have chance to meet him and fully understand his approach prior to meeting up for the start of the Test series, said Andrew Strauss, the England Director of Cricket

With that in mind, we have arranged a preparation camp in Spain. This will involve a combination of physical and fielding sessions and planning meetings in an informal environment in order to provide the best possible lead up to the first Test in Cardiff.

Footitt began his career in Nottinghamshire where he made his first class debut against Glamorgan in 2005, earning plaudits for his raw pace before injury and patchy form saw him switch to Derbyshire in 2010.

He has prospered with a re-modeled action and took 82 wickets in the LV= County Championship in a clear demonstration that he was beginning to realise the potential that had earned him an England Under 19s call-up ten years ago.

Now 29, he still retains express pace and drew attention from a host of suitors including Surrey ahead of the 2014 season.

Tickets remain on general sale for day five of England's Investec Ashes Test showdown with Australia (Sunday 12 July) with a refund guarantee in place if the game doesn't go the distance or suffers from wet weather.

Adult tickets cost £25 with under 16s able to secure seats for £15. Call 02920 419 311 or visit glamorgancricket.com/tickets to buy your tickets.
