Footit's Pace Makes Him Derbyshire's One To Watch

1 May 2015 | Cricket
Mark Footitt guided Derbyshire to a seven-wicket win over Gloucestershire to underline his status as one of the second-tier's sharpest marksmen.
Footitt took three of the last four Gloucestershire wickets to fall on the final day, as he finished with 6-94 and a match haul of 9-166.

The Long Eaton born quick made his first class debut against Glamorgan while playing for Nottinghamshire in 2005. Sourav Ganguly was his first scalp in first class cricket as he returned figures of 4-45.

He has prospered since arriving at Derbyshire in 2010 with a re-modeled action that is much-changed from the explosive style that frequently punctuated his tenure at Nottinghamshire with injury layoffs.

He took 82 wickets in the LV= County Championship in a clear demonstration that he was beginning to realise the potential that had earned him an England Under 19s call-up ten years ago.

Now 29, he still retains express pace and drew attention from a host of suitors including Surrey ahead of the 2014 season.

The left-armer had some success during Derbyshire's foray into Division One in 2013 with 42 first wickets and will be keen to put his stamp on proceedings when Derbyshire visit the SWALEC Stadium on Sunday.
