Schools throughout Wales have swiftly taken up the fantastic opportunity offered by Glamorgan Cricket for accompanied parties of pupils to watch T20 Vitality Blast Tuesday matches this summer at Sophia Gardens, completely free of charge.
The `Calling All Schools` offer was launched earlier this month and already 75 schools have made contact with the Glamorgan Cricket Community Department, including schools from Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Gwynedd, to organise a visit to the Club’s headquarters in Cardiff to watch the T20 Blast games on Tuesday 7 June against Gloucestershire and Tuesday 21 June versus Middlesex.
With two new and very large replay screens, plus refurbished seating areas, improved eating facilities and a range of exciting activities for youngsters on the back lawn, we will be able to offer a great experience for visitors to the home of Glamorgan Cricket.
“We are delighted by this quick response,” said Andrew Hignell, the Club’s Heritage and Education Co-ordinator, “although I’m not completely surprised because we offer some exciting match-day experiences for groups of young people, especially at our T20 Blast games.”
“So far, we have 912 pupils and staff from across Wales attending the match with Gloucestershire, followed by 743 for the game against Middlesex, and we have plenty of room for even more youngsters to come along with their teachers and others from their school to support David Lloyd and his team as they take part in this all-action brand of cricket under the Cardiff floodlights.”
There is still plenty of space at the Sophia Gardens ground for more accompanied groups on these two dates, so please get in touch with us as soon as possible by sending an email to schools@glamorgancricket.co.uk
