Glamorgan CCC have augmented their playing resources by agreeing terms with Tom Helm, the highly promising young seamer from Middlesex on a month-long loan, whilst Tom Lancefield, the former Surrey batsman, joins the Welsh county on a one-year contract.
Helm, who shortly celebrates his 20th birthday, graduated from the Middlesex Academy onto the county's full-time staff in 2012, and for the past two winters the Buckinghamshire-born seam bowler has been a member of the England Potential Performance Programme based at Loughborough University.
Last summer, Helm appeared in two List A games for Middlesex, against the Unicorns at Southend-on-Sea and also against Yorkshire at Headingley, where last September he also made his Championship debut taking 5 wickets in the match. Helm will be available for both LV= County Championship and NatWest T20 Blast fixtures during his loan period.
Lancefield is a 23-year-old left-handed batsman who made his first-class debut for Surrey in 2010. After being released by the South London club, he played last summer for the Unicorns as well as for Glamorgan 2nd XI for whom he scored over 600 runs in all competitions.
Glamorgan Chief Executive and Director of Cricket Hugh Morris said, I've been aware of the progress Tom Helm has made in recent years and his development work with the EPPP. I've been getting encouraging reports on him regularly, he's one of the brightest fast bowling talents in the country.
Clearly with an international calibre bowling attack at Middlesex, his chances there have been limited, but we can provide him with an opportunity and we're thankful to Angus Fraser and Middlesex CCC for allowing us to have Tom for the next month.
Tom Helm has been included alongside Ruaidhri Smith in Glamorgan's 12-man squad for the LV=County Championship match against Worcestershire at the SWALEC Stadium on Sunday 4th May (scheduled start 11am). Smith and Helm replace David Lloyd and John Glover from the squad that travelled to and drew at Grace Road last time out.
Glamorgan Squad to play Worcestershire: JA Rudolph, GP Rees, WD Bragg, MW Goodwin, SJ Walters, J Allenby, MA Wallace (capt), GG Wagg, RA Smith, WT Owen, DA Cosker and TG Helm.
