Glamorgan Cricket and Cricket Wales were delighted to host an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion workshop last week where industry leaders in EDI were invited to Sophia Gardens.
The recreational and professional game has worked closely since Autumn 2021 to produce a coherent joint plan to clearly articulate their commitment and intention to embed equity, diversity and inclusion within cricket in Wales.
The workshop saw subject matter experts, funders and those engaged with inclusion work consider and advise on the plans proposed by Cricket Wales and Glamorgan Cricket.
Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson was in attendance to share her lived experiences, while the workshop also heard powerful lived experiences and expertise from the FAW, WRU, Race Equality First, Cricket Wales and Glamorgan Cricket.
Cricket Development Manager at Glamorgan and Cricket Wales, Mark Frost said: “We were delighted to be able to host an event of this nature.
“We are committed to making the game inclusive for everyone in Wales, and while we have made great strides in that regard, we know we have so much more to learn, and this is what the workshop is about.
“It allows us to listen and learn from people across all walks of life on how we can make the game we love welcoming for all. It was an enlightening experience to hear from all our speakers at our various workshops and we look forward to putting our learnings into practice.”
Guest speaker, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson said: “Cricket is an amazing sport, but it is about encouraging anyone and everyone whatever their background gets involved.
“Whether that is playing or coaching or it’s volunteering. It is important to have sometimes difficult conversations about how we get to people who don’t naturally come this way. There are lots of solutions.
“There are always lots of challenges and questions, but it is only by having a really open and safe dialogue, that we can make the changes we need to make the sport open to everyone.”
