Glamorgan will host Middlesex at Sophia Gardens to begin the County Championship season, while Welsh Fire will play in the very first The Hundred match after the fixtures for next season were released today.

Glamorgan supporters can immediately download all of the fixtures to the calendar on their mobile phone and digital devices with a couple of clicks with highlights including four home Friday night Vitality Blast matches and a rematch of Steve Smith against Jofra Archer to start Welsh Fire’s home men’s The Hundred fixtures against Southern Brave on Sunday, July 19.

A feature of the schedule will see more Championship matches played over the weekend with five of Glamorgan’s home matches to be played on at least one day of the weekend.

Glamorgan host Durham at Swansea (June 28) and Nottinghamshire (August 23) at Colwyn Bay – both matches start on a Sunday – while Newport will host two Royal London Cup matches in addition to a warm-up match against Wales MC.

The start of the new and exciting The Hundred competition will provide a further highlight with Welsh Fire set to take centre stage for the first ever match in the new 100-ball format against Oval Invincibles at the Kia Oval on Friday, July 17.

The men’s opening home match follows two days later at Sophia Gardens with the Smith v Archer match-up that captivated during the Ashes set to be revisited.

Welsh Fire women’s team will play their first home match at Sophia Gardens against Birmingham Phoenix on Tuesday, July 28 as a double-header with the men’s team.

Chief executive, Hugh Morris, said: “It’s looking like another exciting summer of cricket with some blockbuster fixtures scheduled throughout the season.

“We will once again be taking matches across Wales, which shows our commitment to growing the game and introducing new audiences to cricket.

“2020 will also see the introduction of The Hundred and we are delighted to host Welsh Fire with supporters able to watch some of the world’s best cricketers in action right here in Cardiff in the peak of summer.”

Glamorgan narrowly missed out on promotion to Division One of the County Championship last season and have been boosted by confirmation Australia batsman Marnus Labuschagne will return next summer.

The right-hander scored 1,000 Championship runs last summer and scored his debut Test century in Brisbane this week against Pakistan to ensure he will be a major drawcard.

Glamorgan host Middlesex from Sunday, April 19 to start the season and will play six Championship matches before the Vitality Blast begins with a trip to champions Essex Eagles to start on Friday, May 29.

Glamorgan’s first home match of the Blast is against Surrey two days later with home Friday night matches against Somerset (June 12) and Gloucestershire (June 19).

The Royal London Cup will be played in the school holidays, from July 22-August 9, and starts with an away trip to Derbyshire Falcons.

The opening home match is against Surrey at Sophia Gardens on Friday, July 24 with back-to-back matches at Newport, where Yorkshire (July 31) and Nottinghamshire (August 2) will be the visitors.
