Four young Glamorgan players, spread coast to coast across in Australia, are currently preparing for the next round of fixtures in the Australian grade cricket competitions.
Both Kieran Bull (Rockingham-Mandurah CC) and Aneurin Donald (Midland -Guildford CC) are playing in the Western Australia competition, whilst Kiran Carlson is at Hamptons CC in the Southern Bayside Championship (Victoria state) and Nick Selman has returned to Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
Selman missed the opening rounds of competition for Sunshine Coast, but made an immediate impression at the top of the order on his return, scoring 91 off 201 balls in Queensland's first grade competition as his team picked up from a sluggish start to win back to back matches against Gold Coast CC and Sandgate-Redcliffe CC. Nick suffered a couple of low scores in his next two innings, but put those behind him to score 74, 71 and 57 in his next three innings to help his side to a mid-table position ahead of the next round of fixtures.
Kiran Carlson took five wickets in two games, with best figures of 3-24 against McKinnon and matched Selman's batting with a score of 91 - the eigth highest knock so far in the Victoria competition - against Bonbach Tangy CC. Kiran's batting exploits have been outdone however by Tom Smith, who hit a double century for Bonbach against Murrumbeena in an earlier round. Smith, a Glamorgan 2nd XI player, made his List A debut for the Welsh county against Pakistan A last summer at Newport, and showed his batting potential last year hitting 100 not out in a 2nd XI Championship fixture.
Over on the west coast Donald, who is playing alongside former Glamorgan batsman Stewart Walters in a very competitive Championship competition will be aiming for his first half century in the next round of matches after accumulating 54 runs in 5 innings so far.
Donald's side Midland-Guildford are towards the lower end of the ladder, with Bull's team Rockingham-Mundurah not far behind. Bull, who played six 2nd Championship fixtures last year, has also been a regular for the side based south-west of Perth. With best figures are 2-32 against Gosnells and a top score of 32 not out against Freemantle, Bull has been consistent performer.
