30 Mar 2017 | Matches
Glamorgan drew with Cardiff MCCU on the final day of their rain-affected friendly at The SSE SWALEC with the students making 149/5 declared after the home side had declared on their overnight score of 342/7.

Evening session

Craig Meschede and Michael Hogan had further spells after tea as Jeremy Lawlor and Tom Cullen accumulated mainly in singles, before Lawlor clipped Hogan to the ropes at mid-wicket. Andrew Salter then returned at the River End before Hogan ended Cullen’s stay at the crease as he miscued a pull into Meschede’s hands at fine-leg with the fielder running in and taking a good diving catch.

With the game moving towards a draw, Owen Morgan bowled the closing overs at the Cathedral Road End, with Lawlor completing his fifty from 129 balls in the final over before the players shook hands at 4.55pm.

Afternoon session

Owen Morgan continued to bowl after lunch in tandem with Michael Hogan, and the latter ended Brown’s attractive innings as the youngster, having struck seven fours, was smartly caught low down at first slip by Andrew Salter. David Lloyd replaced Lukas Carey at the Cathedral Road End after a parsimonious post-lunch spell during which he conceded just two runs.

After a cover driven four against Meschede, Lawlor greeted the return of Salter at the River End by on-driving him for four. But with the total on 88, Lloyd removed Rouse l.b.w. as Tom Cullen joined Lawlor. He began by cover-driving Owen Morgan who had returned at the Cathedral Road End, before Lawlor guided the spinner through point for another boundary.

Morning Report

Overnight rain and further precipitation this morning led to a delayed start with play eventually getting underway at 11.30am. Matt Norris and Connor Brown began the students reply against Michael Hogan and Lukas Carey, with Brown looking in good touch after a successful pre-season tour to the West Indies, including a match-winning innings for Cardiff MCCU in their victory over Nottinghamshire in a Twenty20 match in Barbados.

Together with Matt Norris he took the total to 45 when the latter edged Craig Meschede into the hands of Nick Selman at second slip. Brown was then joined by the MCCU captain Neil Brand, but nine runs later, Brand edged a drive against David Lloyd into the gloves of Chris Cooke.
