Head Coach Matt Maynard has named a 13-man squad to face our nearest rivals Gloucestershire tomorrow in the Vitality Blast.
There is only one change to the squad that was selected for last week’s fixtures, as Callum Taylor comes in on the back of strong performances for the 2nd team. Taylor will make his 1st XI debut for the club if selected, however was included in the 1st XI squad last year.
He struck an unbeaten century against Kent in the 2nd XI Championship last week and backed that up with an impressive all-round performance against Hampshire on Monday scoring 41 and taking 3/29 in their T20 match.
Meanwhile, Michael Hogan is still missing as he recovers from the thigh injury he sustained against Surrey, but is expected to be fit in a couple of weeks.
The Welsh county have had a difficult start to their Vitality Blast, with three defeats and a no result from their opening four fixtures, but all-rounder David Lloyd hopes that they can reverse fortunes tomorrow evening.
“There’s still a positive vibe in the camp,” said Lloyd. “It’s not the start that we would have liked to get us underway, but the boys are still very positive. They know that there is still a lot of cricket left to be played, with 10 games left. If we can string a couple of wins together you never know. We can always bounce back
“You go through four games and you haven’t had a result obviously the pressure builds, and you can sometimes search for a result. We just need to go back to our normal game plans and stick to it and everything will fall into place.
Lloyd has looked in good form in the opening fixtures of the competition without making a match-winning contribution and hopes to put that right tomorrow against Gloucestershire in partnership with overseas signing Fakhar Zaman.
“I feel good, its nice to be back opening the innings,” added Lloyd. “I would rather win games, and if I can contribute as well that would be a big help. I just want to get that first win and get the ball rolling.
“It’s great to have someone of Fakhar’s international class, and another overseas I have batted with which is always good, and one I will always remember. I hope that we can build on our partnership, and put together a 50, 60, 70 plus run partnership which would be nice. Hopefully I can spend a lot more time in the middle with him.
“Having Gloucestershire this Thursday, we were lucky with the weather in Cheltenham to get away with a point. It’s a big game to play against them, and I think we are going into the game quite confident even the results have gone against us.
“Hopefully we can get that first win against them, and if we turn up and play our normal game we can.”
