Glamorgan looking to do the double over local rivals

Timm van der Gugten returns to join an otherwise unchanged Glamorgan squad for tomorrow night’s clash with Gloucestershire in Cardiff, after sitting out last Sunday’s victory against Kent Spitfires in Canterbury due to illness.

Glamorgan currently hold a two-point lead at the top of the NatWest T20 Blast south group and will look to extend their lead when they attempt to complete the double over their local rivals Gloucestershire.

Overseas signing David Miller will make his first and what could be his last home appearance of the season for Glamorgan after matches against Essex Eagles and Surrey were abandoned due to heavy rain and the South African is itching to finally take the field in Cardiff.

“I’m really looking forward to facing Gloucestershire,” said David Miller.

“I hear the weather is pretty clear so that’s a good sign and a few of the guys were saying it could be my first and last game here because obviously the other two were rained out but I’d love to play.”

Glamorgan have won both their two matches in which Miller had played, a 25-run win against Gloucestershire in Bristol in which Miller hit fifty on debut and a 25-run win against Kent Spitfires where he joined captain Jacques Rudolph to form an 81-run partnership. Now with two games left of his short stint against Gloucestershire tomorrow and then Surrey on Friday, Miller is keen for more action.

“I’m striking the ball nicely and it’s good to be back in the middle,” added Miller. “It’s only been two games with two others rained off so hopefully the next two games go pretty well.

“We pretty much know their bowling attack and their strengths and weaknesses. We’ve all prepped up really well and we’re ready to go.”

Young Welsh seamer Lukas Carey keeps his place in the squad after making his NatWest T20 Blast debut against Kent and taking the early wicket of Daniel Bell-Drummond, whilst batsman Nick Selman and wicket-keeper/batsman Tom Cullen, who has signed a short-term contract with the Welsh county after three years with Cardiff MCCU are also included. Kiran Carlson and David Lloyd are continuing their rehabilitation, but are not yet available for selection.
