A half-century by Rudolph saw Glamorgan to 171/5 from 17.2 overs after being put in to bat by Somerset at The SSE SWALEC before rain ended their next contest in the NatWest T20 Blast.

After a slightly delayed start because of rain, Somerset opted to bowl and they claimed an early wicket as David Lloyd was caught behind as he edged a pull in Lewis Gregory’s opening over – the second of the contest. Aneurin Donald responded with some flowing drives on both sides of the wicket besides a pull for four against Craig Overton and an audacious ramp stroke for six to fine-leg.

Colin Ingram then drove Tim Groenewald for two fours and a massive straight six, whilst Donald clipped Gregory to fine-leg for another four but he perished to the next delivery as Jim Allenby caught a skier at mid-off. But the runs kept flowing as eighteen runs came in Gregory’s over courtesy of two no balls and a pair of free hits. Ingram then pulled Jim Allenby for four before driving him for another huge six over mid-on. But in Tim Groenewald’s next over, Ingram was caught by Michael Leask at deep square-leg.

76/3 after seven overs saw Andrew Salter join his captain as Somerset switched to the spin do of Roelof van der Merwe and Max Waller, with the latter completing a superb catch off his own bowling, as with the total on 92, Salter drilled the ball back to him. Chris Cooke joined Rudolph and after a series of singles he cover drove van der Merwe for four. Rudolph also drove Waller for four and six before Cooke cut him for four.

Hildreth then spilled a catch as Rudolph reverse-swept van der Merwe, with the captain celebrating by gaining four later in the over for an orthodox sweep. Cooke added further to the boundary tally by lofting the Dutch spinner for four over mid-off before Rudolph reverse scooped Groenewald for six to fine-leg. But the bowler then had Cooke caught at long-off with the total on 144 as drizzle fell again.

Rudolph cut Overton for four to complete his 50 from 28 balls before off-driving the seamer for another four, with Graham Wagg starting with an imperious drive for four. Rudolph also swatted Gregory for four but the rain intensified and sent the players off the field. It was still raining at 9.30pm ruling out the prospect of a five overs a side contest, and the contest was abandoned.
