Glamorgan continued their pre-season preparation yesterday with a visit to the Dragons’ training base at Ystrad Mynach.
The team were given the opportunity to train like rugby players, in a session led by Dragons Strength and Conditioning Coaches Huw Bevan and Simon Church, which focused on developing the team’s strength, speed and athleticism on the lead up to the new season.
“We were very lucky to have the opportunity to train at the Newport Gwent Dragons superb facility at Ystrad Mynach,” said Tom Turner, Glamorgan’s Strength and Conditioning Coach.
“We wanted to get the guys out of the indoor school and in to a different environment.
“The session had a strong focus on acceleration and agility, which is something that is hugely important for rugby, but also very relevant for our players when you consider athleticism in the field and on speed when running between the wickets.
“The afternoon was not only a great opportunity for players, but also us as coaches. It’s crucial that as coaching staff we look to continually develop what we deliver to our players and there is no better was of learning than visiting a different high-performance environment.
“Opportunities like yesterday will certainly be ones we strive to include in the future."
