Glamorgan County Cricket Club has signed South African batsman Colin Ingram on a three year contract under the Kolpak ruling, subject to receiving clearance from Cricket South Africa, ECB registration regulations and visa clearance.
Ingram is an aggressive top-order batsman who has played 31 One-Day Internationals for South Africa, with his last appearance just over a year ago in the ODI Series against Pakistan in Dubai. The left-handed batsman averages over 40 in 50-over cricket and is also captain of the Warriors in South Africa, so brings leadership qualities to the Welsh county as well as his international experience.
Originally from Port Elizabeth, Ingram scored a century on his ODI debut and during the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy he notched 75 as South Africa beat West Indies in Cardiff to take his team through to the semi-finals.
Hugh Morris said: Signing a player of Colin Ingram's undoubted calibre and experience is a great boost as we continue our preparations ahead of the new season.
Our strategy is to develop a team with a strong Welsh identity, but we have always said that we need pillars of experienced players in key positions to supplement our home grown talent by recruiting from outside our borders.
Colin is an outstanding talent and aged 29 is in the prime of his career. Anyone in Cardiff, who saw his innings against the West Indies last year in the Champions Trophy couldn't help be impressed. I look forward to welcoming Colin to Glamorgan.
Colin Ingram said, I'm delighted to be joining Glamorgan. I had my first taste of playing county cricket with Somerset last July and I enjoyed it. I've spoken to Jacques Rudolph about the Club and I'm looking forward to the challenge and to playing with my new team mates.
Ingram will join up with his new team mates in March ahead of the new season. Fixtures for the 2015 campaign will be released on Thursday 27th November, 10.30am and Glamorgan membership and T20 Blast Season tickets for 2015 will be available to purchase next week.
