Glamorgan County Cricket Club have completed the signing of Netherlands international Timm van der Gugten, with the 24 year-old fast-medium bowler joining the Welsh county on a three-year contract.
Timm has played in four One-Day Internationals and nineteen International Twenty20 matches for the Netherlands. He made his international debut against Afghanistan in March 2012 in Sharjah and he returned to the UAE with his Dutch team mates to complete a two-match sweep last weekend to help Netherlands go top of the WCL Championship.
His first-class debut came in 2011 for New South Wales and since 2012 he has been playing for Tasmania and the Hobart Hurricanes, in addition to appearing for Northern Districts in the domestic T20 competition in New Zealand. He also has experience of English conditions having played in the Lancashire League for Todmorden in 2015.
He played in the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 competition in Bangladesh and claimed the wicket of Eoin Morgan during a frugal three-over spell, as England were defeated by 45 runs. As well as the wicket of the England limited overs captain Timm has claimed the wickets of several other established internationals including JP Duminy, Brendon McCullum and Ross Taylor during his career with the Dutch squad.
Timm's career-best bowling performance in first-class cricket came in April 2013 when he claimed 7/68 for the Netherlands against Namibia at Windhoek, whilst later that August he claimed career-best figures of 5/24 in the Netherlands One-Day International against Canada.
We are delighted to have secured Timm's services for at least the next three seasons to strengthen our seam bowling attack, said Hugh Morris, Glamorgan Chief Executive and Director of Cricket.
He is a talented quick bowler who has stood out for Netherlands and has the potential to forge a successful county career with Glamorgan.
Van der Gugten was born and grew up in Sydney and represented New South Wales through the junior ranks before making his Sheffield Shield debut in 2011.
I am thrilled to be joining Glamorgan, said Timm van der Gugten, I have always been keen to play county cricket and I am pleased to have joined such an ambitious and passionate county.
