Glamorgan County Cricket Club has signed Australian top-order batsman Shaun Marsh as the Club’s overseas player for the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
An elegant left-hander, Marsh, will be available for Glamorgan in all three formats of the game and will be available for the full county season subject to the 2018 IPL draft, whereby if Shaun is bought for the IPL he will join the Welsh county following his IPL commitments. Should Shaun take part in the IPL, the Club will engage another overseas player to cover Shaun’s duties for this period of the season.
Marsh is a highly experienced International cricketer and has been named in Australia’s 13-man squad for the start of this year’s Ashes series.
He has played 23 Test Matches, 52 One Day Internationals and 15 T20 Internationals for Australia, scoring over 3,500 runs, including seven centuries.
Shaun is a proven performer in domestic white-ball and red-ball cricket, averaging over forty in both First-class and List A matches.
The 34-year old has also played 163 T20 games and is a three-time BBL winner with the Perth Scorchers and has played in the IPL for Kings XI Punjab.
Marsh also has previous experience in British conditions having played for Glamorgan during the T20 campaign of 2012, as well as being a member of the Australian touring party for the 2015 Ashes played in England and Wales.
“I’m extremely excited to join Glamorgan for the 2018 season,” said Marsh. “I have some great memories of the Club when I played in Cardiff in 2012 and I’m glad to be back.
“Securing my County future for the long term has always appealed to me so I jumped at the opportunity when it came.
“There is a lot of exciting young talent at the Club and hopefully I can put in some good performances so we can bring some silverware to Wales”
Glamorgan Director of Cricket Hugh Morris added, “I am very pleased to announce the signing of Shaun Marsh as our overseas signing for the next two years.
“We wanted to bring in someone who is experienced at international level, can bat at the top of the order and can play in all three formats of the game, and Shaun ticks all of those boxes for us.
“He is a world class performer who has played in competitions across the world and that experience will be invaluable to our young players as we look to build on our success in white-ball cricket and improve performances in the County Championship.”
