Fast bowler Michael Hogan and batsman Colin Ingram will share Glamorgan’s captaincy responsibilities for the 2018 season.
After being appointed as interim captain of the Specsavers County Championship team in May, Michael Hogan will continue to lead the side in red-ball cricket next term, while Ingram will have the captaincy duties in the One-Day Cup and T20 Blast competitions.
In the first two games under Hogan’s leadership Glamorgan secured back-to-back victories against Durham at Swansea and at New Road over eventual Division 2 champions Worcestershire. The Welsh county concluded the campaign in seventh spot in Division Two with their line-up featuring up to eight Academy graduates towards the end of the season.
Michael enjoyed a fine year in the competition personally, reaching the milestone of 500 first-class wickets in his career and taking 50 first-class wickets in the season, including career-best match figures of 10/87 in his side’s end of season success against Kent in Canterbury.
Colin Ingram committed to a new two-year white-ball contract with Glamorgan at the beginning of the season and is a hugely experienced cricketer at both domestic and international level, with 40 appearances across IT20s and ODIs for South Africa, plus previous captaincy experience in all formats with his South African side Warriors.
The standout performer of any county in limited overs cricket over the last two seasons, Colin struck 1,026 runs and five centuries in white-ball competitions during 2017 and was named the PCA MVP award winner for the T20 Blast in 2016 and One-Day Cup in 2017.
Colin will feature for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash later this year after previous experience in the IPL with the Delhi Daredevils before he joined Glamorgan at the end of 2014.
Glamorgan Chief Executive Hugh Morris, said: “We are very fortunate to have two excellent leaders within the squad and the decision to appoint Michael and Colin was unanimous by our Committee. By splitting the captaincy during a busy season both players can bring fresh impetus across the different formats.
“After stepping in mid-season Michael has enjoyed his role as captain in our Specsavers County Championship campaign and we are confident in his leadership skills on and off the field, as well as his sheer metronomic consistency year in, year out, that he will help move the side forward.
“Colin is an experienced captain who has been hugely impressive since his arrival at the Club. He has played white-ball cricket around the world and possesses a wealth of knowledge and talent, which he has demonstrated he can put to devastating effect personally as well as inspiring the next generation of future Glamorgan stars.
“Both Michael and Colin are terrific role models, who have already done a great deal in helping us develop the exciting young Welsh talent we have at Glamorgan and they will continue to do so in leading the team.”
