Glamorgan Squad to Play Lancashire at Colwyn Bay Festival

18 Jul 2015 | Cricket
Following a run of six consecutive away games in all competitions Glamorgan travel to north Wales to face top of the table Lancashire at the Rhos-on-Sea ground starting tomorrow (11am).
Glamorgan may have lost their unbeaten record in four-day cricket last week at Chelmsford, but Head Coach Toby Radford is confident his charges remain in a strong position in the table.

We've played some good stuff this year said Radford and we have a good record away from home, so it doesn't phase us where we play.

Last week against Essex I thought we bowled well in first innings and should have restricted them to 220 -230 on the board, but we let them get a few too many runs at the end and when we went into bat it was overcast, seamer friendly conditions which made it difficult.

This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season, although they did meet at Colwyn Bay two years ago, with Lancashire snatching victory from the jaws of defeat to enhance their Division 2 title charge of 2013.

Glamorgan have played an annual fixture in North Wales for decades and this year's annual pilgrimage will see two teams go head-to head in a clash that could determine the eventual destiny of the title. Both teams feature players with international pedigree alomgisde a mix of local players as both counties aim to develop talent from within.

Glamorgan's David Lloyd from St Asaph is proving a valuable addition to the Glamorgan line-up with both bat and ball this season. Lloyd played his club cricket for Brymbo near Wrexham, and is one of three North Walians currently on the Glamorgan staff with Will Owen and Dewi Penryhn Jones. They follow in some distinguished footsteps.

Matthew Maynard may have been born in Saddleworth in the hills above Oldham, just on the Lancashire side of the border with Yorkshire, but he grew up in Menai Bridge on the beautiful island of Anglesey. A few decades further back Wilf Wooller, the Welsh sporting legend who captained Glamorgan for 14 years and also won 18 international rugby caps, was born and raised in Rhos-on-Sea.

I first came up to Colwyn Bay when I was with Middlesex continued Radford. I think of it as a good flat wicket, with nice small boundaries so I'm sure it will make for a good game.

The players enjoy coming to these out grounds as its a chance to play on different wickets and meet supporters they dont get to see so often and with the game being so close to Lancashire I'm sure there will be plenty of supporters for both sides at the game.

We won't worry too much about any noisy Lancs fans there though we enjoyed the atmosphere of the travelling support at Somerset recently, we'll just play the pitch and the conditions and focus on what we need to do.

Dean Cosker has been added to the 12-man squad that travelled to Essex last week.

Match tickets are available to purchase on the gate each day priced £15 for adults, £10 for students or tickets for juniors aged 16 or under are only £3.
