Glamorgan County Cricket Club and the Lord's Taverners have joined forces in a partnership that will see a number of fundraising events and activities organised in an effort to raise vital funds for the sporting charity.
The Lord's Taverners is the UK's leading youth cricket and disability sports charity and donates more than £3 million each year to help give young people, particularly those with special needs, a sporting chance. Lord's Taverners Wales is well known for its sell out charity Christmas lunches and annual golf days which fund specially adapted minibuses for local schools and the distribution of cricket bags designed to encourage youngsters to play the sport.
Chairman of the Lord's Taverners Wales Ed Meggitt, said: Working with such an established and well known association is an exciting opportunity for us, and one which we hope to continue and grow over the coming years. There is a natural synergy between the aims of the charity and Glamorgan's objectives. I'm sure we can both benefit from each other's contacts and expertise and raise a lot of money for less privileged children which is at the heart of what we do.
Hugh Morris, Glamorgan Chief Executive and Director of Cricket, said: We are looking to build relationships with a number of charities and organisations each year to enable us to support and foster our community while strengthening our ties with Welsh businesses.
The Lord's Taverners is at the core of this charity partnership and we plan to maintain the relationship long term. The charity's very ethos of promoting recreational and sporting activities for youngsters fits with what we at Glamorgan aspire to achieve.
We look forward to working with The Lord's Taverners and their committed members on a number of ventures and fundraising efforts.
The first joint initiative to take place will be a networking evening ahead of the NatWest T20 Blast Glamorgan vs. Surrey match on 20th June.
