Glamorgan to host the best in the world

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has recommended to ICC that Cardiff hosts games in both the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy and 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, as well as awarding Glamorgan with regular limited-overs England internationals in the allocation of fixtures from 2017-2019.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2017 will follow the successful formula of the 2013 event with The Oval, Edgbaston and Cardiff being the venues proposed as hosts.

There will also be proposed group matches for Cardiff, Durham, Leeds, Nottingham, Bristol and Southampton for the ICC Cricket World Cup when the tournament is staged in England and Wales in 2019.

It is planned that The Oval will stage the ICC Champions Trophy final in 2017 and that Lord's will host the 2019 Cricket World Cup final. England fixtures in both the ICC Champions Trophy and Cricket World Cup are expected to be hosted by Glamorgan, however all venue allocations are subject to approval by ICC for these global events.

Furthermore the SWALEC Stadium is due to host England international matches for overseas tours in each year of the period of fixtures from 2017 to 2019, building on Glamorgan's successful record of hosting international cricket.

As well as five ICC Champions Trophy games in 2017, the Welsh county will host an England T20 international against South Africa followed by a match in the same format against India a year later.

The SWALEC Stadium will also host a one-day international between England and Australia in 2018 and a T20 international against Pakistan in 2019, plus four Cricket World Cup games.

The first Ashes Test Match of next year's Investec Series will be in Cardiff as well as England's NatWest International T20 match against Australia on August Bank Holiday Monday, whilst in 2016 Glamorgan will host England Royal London One-Day Internationals against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Glamorgan Chief Executive Hugh Morris said, We're delighted to be welcoming the world's best players to the Welsh capital with this allocation of fixtures from 2017 to 2019. By hosting major global events such as the ICC Champions Trophy and Cricket World Cup, the eyes of the world will be on Cardiff.

Furthermore England's finest will come face-to-face with some of the most exciting players in the world in the shortest format of the game as we host internationals against South Africa, India and Pakistan each year, plus Australia return to play an ODI against England in Cardiff.

The team at the SWALEC Stadium have proven calibre in delivering major events and this schedule of games builds on our record and provides the Welsh public with regular top class international cricket each year.

Commenting on the selected venues for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017, Steve Elworthy, the ECB's Head of Global Events, said: 'The format and the venues in 2013 proved extremely popular and the fans turned out in record numbers for the event.

'All three venues will be keen to repeat their success from the last tournament and I am sure they will have learnt from the experience which will lead to the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017 being even more memorable.'

Giles Clarke, the ECB chairman, added: 'There has never been such a concerted period of high class international cricket in England and Wales. ECB will host three global events with the Champions Trophy 2017, the ICC Women's World Cup in 2017 and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 within two years.

'This is a golden time for spectators to watch cricket in our country and we know from the experiences of the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 that the tournament appeals to fans from all ethnic backgrounds and they are most welcome in our grounds.'

Glamorgan will host the first Ashes Test of the Investec Series next July and tickets for the SWALEC Stadium encounter are currently all but sold out, however supporters can register here for a second release of tickets which are expected to become available in the New Year.

What's more England and Australia meet in Cardiff again at the end of August next year in a NatWest International T20 double header, which includes the final Women's Ashes match between the two nations. Tickets are available for this IT20 match priced from £30 for adults, £10 for juniors by calling 02920 419 311 or from www.glamorgancricket.com.
