Glamorgan Cricket is thrilled that around 4,500 pupils and staff from over 100 schools and colleges will be attending the Club’s Vitality Blast T20 matches this week at Sophia Gardens with 2,500 at Wednesday night’s match against Somerset as well as 2,000 coming to Friday evening’s contest against the Sussex Sharks.

This follows the presence of 2,100 pupils and staff from a total of 54 schools and colleges being at Sophia Gardens on 7 June for Glamorgan’s game with Surrey and, overall, takes the total number of youngsters and teachers, taking advantage of Glamorgan’s Free Ticket Offer, to 6,600 from a total of 168 schools and colleges across South, West and Mid Wales, as well as some from Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Cornwall.

In addition, to pupils from a number of primary and secondary schools from Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, once again there will be several schools and colleges in attendance at this week’s matches from Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Monmouthshire, plus contingents from Swansea, Brecon, Pontypridd, Bridgend, Ebbw Vale, Neath Port Talbot, Merthyr Tydfil, Abergavenny, Pontypool and Caerphilly.

“We have been delighted by the number of schools and college taking advantage of our free ticket offer this summer for accompanied groups from educational establishments,” said Andrew Hignell, the Heritage and Education Co-ordinator of Glamorgan Cricket. “Last summer, we had around 4,200 at two of our T20 Blast games, so it’s been great to take this total close to 7,000 at three matches this summer.”

“The youngsters who were here on 7 June had a great experience and I’m sure that the same will happen this Wednesday and Friday. For many of those boys and girls attending our matches, it’s their first-ever experience of a professional cricket match and our feedback from those who were here on 7 June shows that the majority want to come to Sophia Gardens again and support Glamorgan Cricket next year and beyond.”

“It was also very gratifying on 7 June for the members of the Club’s Community coaching team to engage with so many enthusiastic youngsters at the activities and skills sessions which were taking place on the lawn at the rear of the Pavilion. These facilities will also be available ahead of the games on 21 and 23 June, so we look forward to further fantastic feedback from the 4,500 pupils and staff coming to this week’s games at Sophia Gardens.”
