Head Coach Matt Maynard has named a 13-man squad for the Vitality Blast fixture against the Essex Eagles tomorrow night in Chelmsford.
It is the same squad Maynard picked for Glamorgan’s abandoned match against Kent Spitfires on Wednesday night.
Batsman Kiran Carlson should be available for selection after he travelled with the squad to continue his rehab from the side strain he picked up against the Sussex Sharks earlier in the competition.
The match will also be Fakhar Zaman’s final appearance for the club in this year’s Vitality Blast, as travels back to Pakistan after the match.
The Eagles currently sit in 7th position in the table with seven points, and two wins to their name. The hard-hitting opener Cameron Delport smashed a brutal hundred earlier in the competition, and they have a very experienced bowling attack led by Pakistani quick Mohammad Amir and South African spinner Simon Harmer.
Glamorgan have fond memories of Chelmsford, after Chris Cooke secured a famous victory for the Welsh county with a brutal innings last year in the Vitality Blast.
All-rounder David Lloyd, who watches the innings first hand, believes the side can use the result as inspiration this time around.
“After last year’s heroics with Cooky getting us over the line, it would be nice to finish this block with a win,” said Lloyd.
“It’s been a real disappointing campaign from us, for some reason it just hasn’t worked for us. We owe a lot to supporters with our performances not being good enough and we would like to repay them with a win on Friday and also doing well in the four-day stuff and getting that promotion.”
Chelmsford is known for its raucous crowds and intimidating atmosphere, however it is not something which will affect the team, according to Lloyd.
“It’s always a nice welcoming from their fans, getting called all sorts of names,” said Lloyd.
“It would nice to get a win to silence the crowd. Getting a win on Friday would give us a lot of confidence going into Sunday. Winning games is good for anyone mentally and for the boys it would be great.
“It would be nice to give the fans something to cheer about really. There are a strong side and are also doing well in the 4-day stuff, so it’ll be a tough game. But there is nothing for us to lose now, so let’s go out there and try to whack 220 and bowl them out.”
Glamorgan squad to face the Essex Eagles: Ingram*, Lloyd, Zaman, Marsh, Taylor, Carlson, Cooke+, Salter, Douthwaite, de Lange, Smith, Carey and Wagg.
