Glamorgan unchanged for Sussex Sharks

Head coach Matt Maynard has named an unchanged 13-man squad for tomorrow’s Bank Holiday Vitality Blast fixture against Sussex Sharks at Sophia Gardens.

The Welsh county have yet to register a victory in the competition and lost to local rivals Somerset in front of the Sky cameras last night.

All-rounder David Lloyd struck his 3rd half-century of the campaign in the defeat but despite Glamorgan’s position in the table, Lloyd says there is still plenty to gain as they head into their final couple of matches in the competition.

“A couple of wins against Sussex Sharks and Hampshire would be ideal,” said Lloyd. “Both teams are in the hunt for a quarter-final position so it would be nice to get one over both of them and dent their chances to reach the knockout stages.

“That’s what we’ve got to play for now. We’re dead and buried in the Vitality Blast so we have to play for pride and give the people who supported us something to cheer about.

“It’s not nice to go through a whole campaign without a win but we’ll be turning up again on Monday looking to play the kind of cricket we’ve done well with in the past.

Glamorgan are currently in 4th spot in the Specsavers County Championship with the top three sides all being promoted to Division One and Lloyd believes a couple of strong performances in the Vitality Blast will hold them in good stead as they push for promotion.

“There’s still a lot to play for and if we get wins in the next two games it will give us confidence going into the County Championship,” added Lloyd.

“Getting that winning feeling back in the camp is important and will help us really attack those last three games.”
