Michael Hogan could not have experienced a better start to captaincy when Glamorgan defeated Durham at Swansea last Monday, to claim their first Specsavers County Championship win of the season.
The 36-year-old seamer took 5/49 in Durham’s first innings and seven in the game, as Glamorgan’s batsmen chased 266 on the final day - thanks mainly to 116 not out from young opener Nick Selman - to seal a famous victory.
After a ten-day break, Glamorgan are back in action away to Worcestershire tomorrow (9 June) at New Road with Hogan looking for his team to avenge their loss at home to Worcestershire earlier in the season.
“They have plenty of quality players,” said Hogan. “They were by far the better team when they beat us by eight wickets earlier in the season, but we have improved since then and are up for the challenge.”
Glamorgan’s batting has improved since Ingram and Cooke batted together throughout the final day against Nottinghamshire, to draw a game the visitors appeared certain of winning when they forced Glamorgan to follow on after two days.
Since then the batsmen have showed more responsibility and Hogan believes his side have found the right formula to put large scores on the board.
“We have planned on how to approach each innings better.
“After a poor first innings performance against Notts, the batsmen were told in no uncertain terms that it was not acceptable and a blueprint was set for the future”.
Glamorgan will select from the same squad as the Durham game, with Lukas Carey, their promising young seamer and leading wicket taker this season, who was rested for the Swansea game, pushing for a starting spot.
Worcestershire will be without young batsman Kohler-Cadmore who has been released from his Worcestershire contract and will join Yorkshire immediately.
