Glamorgan meet Gloucestershire in their next Vitality Blast game at Sophia Gardens with the match on Tuesday, 7 June scheduled to start at 1830. (writes Andrew Hignell)
In all, the two teams have met 32 times previously in the competition with Glamorgan winning 14 and Gloucestershire 15, whilst the game at Cardiff in August 2019 ended in a dramatic tie. Overall, Glamorgan have won 8 of the matches against Gloucestershire at Sophia Gardens and lost 6, with the results of their last six meetings at the Cardiff ground being:
10 July, 2016 - Gloucestershire won by 9 wickets
3 Aug, 2017 - Gloucestershire won by 5 runs (DLS Method)
3 Aug, 2018 - Glamorgan won by 2 runs
1 Aug, 2019 - Match Tied
18 Sept, 2020 - Glamorgan won by 17 runs
10 June, 2021 - Gloucestershire won by 4 runs
The match between the two teams last summer saw Marnus Labuschagne blast an unbeaten 93 from 56 balls, besides holding two fine catches in the deep. But his pyrotechnics with the bat were not enough to see the Welsh county home as they slipped to a four-run defeat against a Gloucestershire side for whom Glenn Phillips, Benny Howell and Graeme van Buuren all made important contributions with the bat,
In 2020 Glamorgan won by 17 runs after Andy Balbirnie made an unbeaten 99 as the Welsh county posted 201-6 - their highest-ever total against Gloucestershire in T20 cricket and their fifth highest total in this format of the game.
As far as the best individual performances are concerned in T20 matches between the two teams, the match at Bristol in 2015 saw Jacques Rudolph make an unbeaten 101 and Michael Klinger 104 – these remain the highest score for each county. Ryan Watkins’ return of 5/16 at Cardiff in 2009 and Benny Howell’s 5/18 at Cheltenham College in 2019 are the best-ever bowling performances for each team.
