Glamorgan welcome the Middlesex Panthers to the SWALEC Stadium for their opening match in the Royal London One-Day Cup with the 50 overs contest scheduled to get underway at 10.30am on Saturday, July 26th (Gates open - 9.30am)
Match Preview
Last year's match between the two sides at Cardiff saw Glamorgan produce a superb fielding display in a contest reduced to 25 overs per side because of rain. Chasing a target of 154 to win, Middlesex nosedived to 32/5 in the eighth over with Jim Allenby bowling Dawid Malan with his fifth ball, before Michael Hogan bowled the over of the night to Joe Denly as the tall Australian - who began the night as the country's leading wicket-taker in all forms of the game - beat him on the outside edge from four of the first five deliveries before inducing a fatal outside edge from the hapless batsman with the sixth ball.
Both Chris Cooke and Murray Goodwin took superb diving catches in the deep as Glamorgan completed a home and away double over the London-based side having earlier in the season beaten Middlesex by 26 runs at Lord's with Marcus North posting a career-best 137* whilst Jim Allenby weighed in with an unbeaten 69 and Will Bragg completed an assertive 62.
Middlesex's most recent victory in a List A game at Glamorgan's headquarters came in 2009 when a century from Nick Compton guided them to victory by 63 runs. Before last season's success, Glamorgan's last home victory in a List A encounter against Middlesex had been back in September 2001 when they won at Sophia Gardens by 40 runs after Robert Croft had posted 114, Steve James had made 93, and Andrew Davies had taken 3/36.
