Glamorgan welcome Nottinghamshire to The SSE SWALEC for their next match in the Specsavers County Championship with the four-day contest scheduled to start at 11am on Friday, May 19th. (Gates open - 10 am)
Nottinghamshire are currently the unbeaten leaders of Division Two with three wins from as many matches so far this summer with the East Midlands county having already defeated Leicestershire and Durham by ten and nine wickets respectively, before completing a victory by an innings and 88 runs over Sussex.
Nottinghamshire were relegated from Division One of the Competition last summer so this will be the first time since 2007 that the two teams have been in action against each other in the County Championship. On that occasion at the St. Helen’s ground in Swansea in June 2007, Glamorgan recorded a 55-run victory over the East Midlands side with Robert Croft scoring 115 and teenager James Harris 87, before Dean Cosker completed a nine-wicket match haul to see Glamorgan to victory.
This atoned for the match earlier in May 2007 at Trent Bridge when Nottinghamshire won by an innings with both Jason Gallian and Samit Patel making hundreds .Nottinghamshire’s most recent Championship victory in Cardiff came in September 2005 when they won the game at the Sophia Gardens ground by eight wickets, thanks to a century from Darren Bicknell and miserly bowling performances by Greg Smith and Mark Ealham, although Alex Wharf struck a defiant century for Glamorgan.
Glamorgan’s most recent success at their headquarters against the East Midlands side came in September 1995 when the Welsh county registered a 189-run victory. In that match, centuries in each innings by Hugh Morris, plus a return of 5/47 by Robert Croft in Nottinghamshire’s second innings saw Glamorgan to victory.
