Glamorgan v Hampshire Hawks T20 at Cardiff: Head-to-Head

8 Jun 2022 | Cricket

Glamorgan continue their campaign in the Vitality Blast as they meet Hampshire at Sophia Gardens, with the match on Friday 10 June scheduled to start at 1830pm (writes Andrew Hignell).

As the list below shows of the last six meetings between the two teams at Sophia Gardens, Glamorgan have been victorious on the last two occasions when Hampshire have visited Cardiff:

25 June, 2014 - Hampshire won by 6 runs
29 May, 2015 - Hampshire won by 21 runs
3 June, 2016 - Glamorgan won by 5 wickets
7 July, 2017 - Hampshire won by 22 runs
10 Aug, 2018 - Glamorgan won by 8 wickets
30 Aug, 2019 - Glamorgan won by 28 runs

Their victory in 2019 saw the Glamorgan batters feast on a spin-heavy attack, striking a total of 19 fours and 13 sixes, including a brace off the last ten balls by Chris Cooke, whose 23-ball cameo followed assertive knocks by Colin Ingram and David Lloyd. Ingram had been to the fore in 2018 after a fine bowling spell of 3/21 by Craig Meschede had restricted Hampshire to 151. The pair then added 82 in 8.2 overs for the first wicket as Glamorgan raced to their target, with Ingram reaching his fifty from 26 balls as the Welsh county eased home with 25 balls to spare.

Hampshire were victorious in 2017 by 22 runs after Lewis McManus had struck 59 before Shahid Afridi claimed 4/20, with Graham Wagg making 50. However, Glamorgan defeated Hampshire at Cardiff in 2016 during a contest which saw Michael Hogan take 4/28 and Dale Steyn 3/22 as the visitors were dismissed inside 19 overs for 141, before Aneurin Donald made a composed half-century as the Welsh county reached their modest target during the 17th over.

Hampshire were also the victors on their visit to Cardiff in 2015 with the South Coast side winning by 21 runs after veteran all-rounder Sean Ervine had clubbed an assertive 49, before Chris Wood dismantled the home batting by taking 4/16. The outcome had been much closer in 2014 when Hampshire narrowly won by six runs, but the result could have been very different had Darren Sammy not been caught on the boundary’s edge, high above his head by Jimmy Adams, just as the West Indian all-rounder looked like seeing Glamorgan to victory.
