Glamorgan vs Somerset: Head-to-Head

21 Apr 2019 | Cricket

Glamorgan welcome Somerset to Cardiff for their next match in the Royal London One-Day Cup with the Welsh county meeting the West Country side in a match starting at 11.00am at Sophia Gardens on Easter Sunday, April 21st.

Having lost their opening contests in the competition against Essex and Hampshire, Glamorgan will be eager to return to winning ways against a team who demolished Kent, last year’s losing finalists, by 264 runs at Taunton on Good Friday.

The Welsh county lost their match in the 50-over competition last summer at Taunton as a superb 159 by James Hildreth helped Somerset to an 83-run victory. In 2017 at Cardiff it was Jim Allenby who took centre-stage as the former Glamorgan all-rounder made an imperious 144 to lay the foundations for a victory by 170 for the West Country side.

Somerset had narrowly lost their List A encounter in Cardiff in August 2013 as Glamorgan won a dramatic contest as the Welsh county mounted a successful run-chase. Mark Wallace led the way with a fine 70, but a mid-innings wobble meant that it was Simon Jones who struck the winning runs with three balls to spare as Glamorgan won a nail-biting encounter by just one wicket.

The List A contest at the SWALEC Stadium in 2012 was washed out without a ball being bowled, and Glamorgan were victorious the previous August at their headquarters when they defeated Somerset by three wickets with Will Owen taking 4/31.
