Andy Gorvin took some time so share his thoughts ahead of Glamorgan’s away trip to Gloucestershire on Friday – in a game that will mark his fist time playing in Bristol.
For your reflections on the opening weekend, would you call it a case of some positives and some learnings?
Andy: We were all really disappointed on Sunday evening, as we should be. The main aim now is bounce back.
We were probably outplayed in all three facets of the game, really. So, there’s plenty for us to learn from last week. The good thing about Championship games is that the next game is right around the corner. We’ll look to put those learnings into practice from Friday morning.
Despite a frustrating result, it’s been positive to see Fernando and Bashir finding their rhythm.
Andy: Yeah, it’s great to have both guys on-board. They’ve settled in well with the group and we’ve had a glimpse of what they can both do. Hopefully we’ll see some more of that over the next few games.
Next up we’ve got rivals Gloucestershire who are also looking to bounce back. How have preparations been?
Andy: We had training on Tuesday and we’re training today before the game tomorrow. The main objective is to pick ourselves up, bounce back and claim a win over the next four days.
We’re playing away from home and we know it’s quite a different batting line-up to bowl at, with left handers and things like that. The plan changes very slightly, but it’s more about working to find our rhythm and take wickets.
We played Gloucestershire a lot last year – twice in T20 and twice in the Championship. They know our team and we know theirs, but there’s always quite a big rivalry between us, being the closest county. Hopefully we can go across the bridge and get the job done.
How do you look back at last season, with the draw in Cheltenham and our Sophia Gardens win?
Andy: The draw at Cheltenham was pretty strange from a score-card point of view and from a neutral point of view. It was an odd feeling not to have a winner, despite being a great game and a great effort from us to chase 593. So, for there to be no winner, it was almost an anti-climax.
We’re not at Cheltenham this time – and back in Bristol after two years. I’ve actually not played at Bristol before, so that’ll be a different challenge, personally. Obviously the last game of last season was against them. We made a game of it and took the win with two days washed out. Naturally there’s plenty of rivalry between the two teams and it’s our goal to get on the right side of the result this week.
