Shaun Tait has urged Glamorgan to produce their best cricket against Yorkshire Vikings in the NatWest T20 Blast quarter-final on Thursday night, while admitting he was delighted to be involved in the match.
The 33-year-old paceman – who has played in Ashes series and major T20 internationals for Australia, as well as the Big Bash and Indian Premier League – was relishing the Glamorgan versus Yorkshire match.
With the likes of Liam Plunkett, David Willey and Adil Rashid set to lock horns with Tait, Colin Ingram, Jacques Rudolph and company, the clash is being billed as one of Glamorgan's biggest matches in years.
Tait said: "Yorkshire are a pretty good side but we’re a good side as well so it’s going to be a great clash. It’s just great to be involved in a very important game for the whole of South Wales.
"From our point of view we just want to make Finals Day and whoever stands in our way, we just want to knock them off. If we can beat Yorkshire on Thursday and head to Edgbaston on August 20, that’d be awesome. We've got a good shot."
Tait's two wickets against Somerset in Glamorgan's last home match in the group stages helped the Welsh county qualify for the quarter-finals.
Colin Ingram then struck a century in the final match, against Essex Eagles at Chelmsford to cap a memorable group stage for Glamorgan.
As well as hailing top run-scorer Ingram, Tait was keen for Glamorgan to produce their best cricket against the Vikings in front of a bumper Welsh crowd on Thursday night (7pm start).
Asked where Ingram ranks in terms of the best T20 and One-Day batsman in the world, Tait added: "Colin is a good player and one of the better players Glamorgan have seen in the short format. He’s as good as some of the teammates I’ve played with in the IPL and Big Bash.
"But all I care about is that he performs in the next three T20 games and then hopefully we pick up some silverware."
Yorkshire visit The SSE SWALEC this week having won their last four consecutive games in the T20 Blast and securing third place in the North Group behind Northamptonshire Steelbacks and Nottinghamshire Outlaws.
Tait said: "Liam Plunkett and Tim Bresnan are experienced players and Adil Rashid is a danger man with the ball and I’ve played with him before, so there are some really good players who have played international cricket in their side."
