After their draw with Worcestershire at the SWALEC Stadium, Glamorgan travel to the South coast to meet Hampshire at The Ageas Bowl with the match in the LV=County Championship starting at 11am on Sunday, May 11th.
Glamorgan have enjoyed their best start in the LV=County Championship for ten years with the Welsh county still unbeaten in 2014 in first-class cricket. Besides their victory and three draws this summer, they ended 2013 with a draw against Essex at Chelmsford and then a victory over Gloucestershire at the SWALEC Stadium, giving them an unbeaten six-match sequence in the four-day game.
2004 was the last time that Glamorgan went into their fifth Championship match of the season still without defeat. That season, ten years ago, saw Glamorgan - captained by Robert Croft - draw with Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Essex, before recording a sequence of four successive victories between May 19
th and June 12
th as they defeated Durham by 201 runs, Derbyshire by 128 runs, Somerset by seven wickets and then overwhelming Leicestershire by the mammoth margin of 409 runs at Sophia Gardens.
After drawing with Durham, Glamorgan then suffered their first defeat of the summer on July 31st as Hampshire beat them at Sophia Gardens by nine wickets. The South coast coast were led by Shane Warne and included fellow Australian Michael Clarke, with Warne taking 6/65 in Glamorgan's second innings before Jimmy Adams - Hampshire's current captain - struck an unbeaten 65 to see his side to victory.
In terms of recent matches between the two teams at the Ageas Bowl, 2013 saw Glamorgan draw their Championship match at Hampshire's headquarters before returning in September to complete a fine victory in the Yorkshire Bank40 semi-final which clinched a place in the final of the one-day competition.
However, Glamorgan have yet to record a Championship victory at Hampshire's new headquarters, with their last first-class victory on Hampshire soil coming at Southampton in September 1991 when they won at the Northlands Road ground by seven wickets after the Welsh county had posted an impressive 504 in their first innings thanks to a career-best 243 by Matthew Maynard, plus 131 from Hugh Morris.
