Harrison names 13-man squad for showcase fixture

Head coach David Harrison has named a 13-man squad for Glamorgan’s showcase fixture against Wales National County (WNC) tomorrow at Sophia Gardens.

The 50-over friendly, devised by NCCA (National Counties Cricket Association) and ECB last year will provide a good test for Glamorgan ahead of their opening Royal London Cup match against Warwickshire on Thursday (22nd July).

Harrison takes over the head coach role for the Royal London Cup campaign from Matt Maynard who has been seconded to Welsh Fire.

Unfortunately, Harrison has recently been picked up as a close contact by NHS’ Track and Trace system and will miss the fixture, as well as the RLC matches against Warwickshire on Thursday and Northamptonshire on Sunday while he self-isolates.

Steve Watkin and Adrian Shaw will step up from their coaching roles in the seconds for the games, with Harrison continuing as head coach and inputting remotely.

23-year-old Kiran Carlson will lead the team for the first time as club captain Chris Cooke and vice-captain David Lloyd are away playing in The Hundred, along with seamer Timm van der Gugten and batsman Colin Ingram.

Wicket-keeper Tom Cullen will take the gloves from Cooke, while overseas signing Hamish Rutherford will make his Glamorgan 1st XI debut having already made a 2nd team appearance, scoring 35 against Hampshire.

View from the camp – Hamish Rutherford

"As a batter, regardless of being an overseas pro or a normal (home) player, it's just about scoring runs, that's my main job and aside to that, being able to assist a younger squad for the 50-overs.

"Then at the back end (of the season), if I can help anyone along the way I'll be pretty happy.

"I've only been to Cardiff a couple of times for fleeting visits, so I'm looking forward to looking round.

"I'm looking forward to getting an understanding of the group and how I can help.

"I love county cricket, it's my fourth county now so it's awesome to come back and have the opportunity to play.”
