Batsman Charlie Hemphrey has been recalled by Queensland and has returned to Australia.

Hemphrey will miss Glamorgan’s three remaining fixtures in the Specsavers County Championship, which begins with the away match against Worcestershire on Tuesday,10th September.

Director of cricket, Mark Wallace, said: “It’s disappointing for Charlie and the club that he has to go back early with three matches in the season to go.

“There was always potential for cross-over with Queensland and they have exercised their right to call him back.

“Charlie has been a big part of the County Championship campaign this year and has been a solid presence at the top of the order and we look forward to having him back next year.”

Charlie Hemphrey, added: “I’ve had a brilliant time at Glamorgan this season and to be pushing for promotion means a lot to this group of players and coaches and I know they will leave nothing on the field in trying to achieve a top three finish.

“It’s a very well run club with so much in place for the players to succeed and get better. I speak for Marnus on that front as well; it’s a great environment to be in and it’s no surprise to see him perform to the level he has this season and it’s been great to see."

Hemphrey scored 546 runs opening the batting in this year’s Specsavers County Championship with five half-centuries, however leaves frustrated he failed to capitalise on some promising starts.

“Although I feel I've performed consistently at the top of the order, I am a bit disappointed I haven't gone on to get a few more big scores.

“It’s a difficult job opening the innings, but I’ve enjoyed the responsibility and the challenge. It’s been good to have formed a decent partnership with Sellers over the season.

“I'm excited about coming back next season to Glamorgan and Cardiff and if we put in the performances I know we can in the final few matches, hopefully we’ll be in Division One.”
