Overseas star Marnus Labuschagne is targeting a quick start to this year's Vitality Blast competition as Glamorgan prepare to face Sussex Sharks, Surrey and Middlesex away in the space of the next four days.
The Welsh county started last year's campaign slowly, which Marnus is hoping the side will learn from, heading into the opening fixture against the Sharks tonight.
“I think it’s very important to start really well. In other years we’ve started poorly, lost our first few games and then you’re chasing your tail. I think it’s important for us, come tonight against Sussex, we start really well and we’re clear with our plans," said Marnus.
“All those players who played last year, they’ll have more experience in the positions they’re playing. David Lloyd has done a great job leading us in the County Championship – he and Kiran Carlson as captain and vice-captain work really well together.
“I’ve said it plenty of times but it’s one of my favourite teams to play for. I love coming back and playing for Glamorgan.”
Labuschagne, ranked the world's best Test batter, is scheduled to play around half the group games before heading to Sri Lanka with Australia. He had a productive T20 campaign last year, hitting 390 runs in just eight matches and feels in good form heading into this season's tournament.
“I feel like my game’s in a really good place. I’m enjoying the challenge that county cricket brings and I’m really looking forward to the next challenge in the T20 format, getting more opportunities in that format and scoring runs and being more consistent. It’s a lot of fun coming to Wales every year and learning my craft.
“I always love being involved in the game, whether that’s batting, fielding or bowling. The improvement I’ve made in my bowling, especially in the short formats, has been good. It’s been nice to have a bit of success in the longer format.”
