Colin Ingram is hoping to return to action in the near future after injuring his knee whilst warming up for the Welsh county\'s Specsavers County Championship opener against Leicestershire on April 17.
Although he will not feature in Glamorgan’s next four-day match against Worcestershire starting on Sunday, Ingram is hoping to be fit in time for the NatWest T20 Blast campaign which begins at Surrey on May 26. Ingram said his sole focus was on returning to fitness.
He said: “At the minute my main goal is to get back and start hitting balls again – whether they’re red or white it doesn’t make a difference. I was really looking forward to the season and it was hugely disappointing to miss the start.”
Asked whether his injury might keep him fresh for the rigorous county schedule in May and June, Ingram said he would rather have been playing, despite disappointing results for Glamorgan in his absence.
He added: “I’m one of those guys who wants to play out there playing as many games as possible, but I’m coming back into an exciting part of the season with T20 cricket.
“When you add in another format to the season if often gives the squad a bit of a boost so hopefully I’ll be back in time for that and get some exciting cricket under my belt.”
Ingram, who has played 31 ODIs, plus seven IT20s for South Africa, will be an integral part of Robert Croft’s plans in the shortest format this summer.
The South African added: “With a 6pm or 6.30 start, sun out and the crowd packed in, it creates a great vibe.
“And on a Friday night with people off work or on their summer holidays, it’s a great environment to play in.
“So there’s a lot of excitement building for the T20 competition. I’m certainly looking forward to it and hopefully I’m back out there as soon as possible.”
Glamorgan’s first home match in this season’s T20 Blast is against Essex Eagles on June 1. Kids can attend the game for just £1, with tickets are available from here.
