Star batsman and new white-ball captain Colin Ingram returned to Wales today to begin preparations for Glamorgan’s Royal London One-Day Cup and Vitality Blast campaigns.
Ingram spent the winter playing T20 cricket around the world and won the Big Bash League with Adelaide Strikers, but is delighted to be back in Wales and join up with the Club.
“It’s great to be back and have that wonderful familiar feeling,” said Ingram.
“It’s a place I’ve really enjoyed playing over the years and it’s great to walk into the stadium again.”
The big hitting left-hander is travelling with the Welsh county’s Specsavers County Championship squad to Grace Road to practice before the fifty over competition begins on Friday, 18th May with a home match against local rivals Gloucestershire.
Ingram is looking forward to the challenge of captaining the side for the first time and wants his team to play tough cricket throughout the summer.
“I’m a simple guy in the way I play my cricket. I train hard and play hard and the players know what I’m all about and it’s nice to step into the captaincy that way.
“I hope to create some good edge and I’m really competitive even though I’m a mildly mannered person and I hope we can build on the last couple of years."
The South African will be joined in the Vitality Blast by overseas signings Shaun Marsh and Usman Khawaja, who Ingram believes will add star power to a side which topped the South Group and reached Final's Day last year.
“They’re two great guys and I’m sure they will compliment the squad really well. They’re two experienced players at the peak of their career, so it’s great to have them on board and I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do."
