Colin Ingram has decided to step down as captain of the Warriors - the Eastern Cape franchise that represents his home town Port Elizabeth.
The 2016 NatWest T20 Blast player of the year missed the entire Specsavers County Championship campaign as he managed a knee injury that he picked up early season and has undergone surgery a few weeks ago since returning to South Africa to remedy the problem.
Although his rehabilitation is going well, he is some time away from getting out into the middle as his recovery so he feels that he would not do justice to the role of captain.
Ingram won Glamorgan limited overs player of the year before picking up two further honours at the PCA Awards night - the Sky Sports Sixes title as he equalled Chris Gayle's record and also the T20 Player of the Year as he helped propel Glamorgan into a home quarter-final for the first time in 12 years.
The Warriors began their Sunfoil Series at East London against the Dolphins losing by an innings and 70 runs earlier this week with Simon Harmer appointed captain of the Sunfoil Series team and Jon-Jon Smuts the 1 day and T20 team captain.
“Colin has been an outstanding captain and we are grateful for his leadership over the past season," said Coach Malibongwe Maketa. "He has always given the franchise 100%. He still has big role to play as a senior player in the squad and we are looking forward to his continued commitment to the team albeit not in a captaincy role.”
