Injured Willey Out Of ODI Squad

Yorkshire and England allrounder David Willey is out of the Royal London One-Day International squad after picking up a hand injury.

Willey, who featured for beaten semi-finalists Yorkshire Vikings on T20 Finals Day on Saturday, injured his bowling hand and had an x-ray. He has been replaced in the squad for Nottinghamshire seamer Jake Ball.

His omission means England could recall Durham paceman Mark Wood to their 50-over side, with Chris Woakes and Liam Plunkett the other seamers likely to be included alongside spin duo Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali.

Willey tweeted: "Not actually ruled out of this series yet, waiting for diagnosis on hand. Hopefully just a bruise!"

On the batting front, England will have to choose whether to include Ben Stokes purely as a batsman. Jonny Bairstow and Liam Dawson are both pushing for inclusion.

The first ODI at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton, gets underway on Wednesday. England, who were 3-0 winners over Sri Lanka in the summer's other ODI series – sealed with a victory at The SSE SWALEC – will be looking to repeat their success.
