End of Match Report – Match 2
SCORECARD
David Lloyd’s team were chasing a target of 162 to win the second of the T20 games and although Charlie Hemphrey cover drove Prem Sisodiya for four in the opening over, the spinner gained revenge shortly afterwards as Timm van der Gugten pouched a skier at mid-on. Tom Cullen duly joined Dan Douthwaite who straight drove van der Gugten for four before lofting him to the ropes at wide long-on. His salvo ended though when Joe Cooke took a good catch at long-on as Sisodiya claimed a second wicket.
34/2 saw Kiran Carlson make his way to the middle and he was swiftly into his stride as he swept Sisodiya for four. Douthwaite then harpooned Carey for six to mid-wicket before Carlson late-cut Salter for four. The spinner however gained revenge in his next over as Carlson swept him to mid-wicket where Billy Root completed the catch. Owen Morgan joined Douthwaite who continued to work the ball around as the target became 74 from 48 balls.
Douthwaite greeted the introduction of Joe Cooke into the attack by pulling him for six en route to completing a 40-ball fifty. Morgan also deposited Callum Taylor over mid-wicket for six before driving him sweetly through extra cover for four as the target became 41 from 30 balls. Douthwaite then lofted Cooke for six to long-on whilst Morgan steered the ball through point for four before his partner plonked another ball from Cooke over long-off four his fourth maximum.
This show of aggression meant the equation was now 19 from 24 balls as de Lange returned at the River End, but Douthwaite threaded another fierce drive through the covers for four before Morgan flicked Morgan to the ropes at fine-leg. With the scores level at the start of the 19th over, Douthwaite ended proceedings by driving de Lange for another straight six to end unbeaten on 80 from 55 balls as his side won by seven wickets.
Interval Report – Match 2
After their victory in the first match, Chris Cooke’s team batted first in the second encounter with Nick Selman and Joe Cooke opening the batting as Jamie McIlroy began at the River End with Roman Walker operating at the Cathedral Road End. The latter struck with his fourth delivery as Selman miscued a pull to Owen Morgan at square-leg, before removing Joe Cooke with his sixth delivery as the left-hander drove the ball uppishly into Michael Hogan’s hands at mid-on.
Billy Root and Connor Brown joined forces with the total on 5/2 with the latter square-driving Dan Douthwaite for four whilst the former had the good fortune to top-edge a pull for four against Walker high over the wicket-keeper’s head. Brown then flayed Douthwaite through backward point for four before drilling Ruaidhri Smith through mid-off and mid-on for successive fours. His assertive innings though was ended by Kieran Bull as he advanced down the wicket and was stumped by Cullen.
55/3 heralded the arrival of Marchant de Lange but after scything a three to third man he miscued another muscular blow and Michael Hogan running in from mid-on completed the catch. Having been joined by Callum Taylor, Root then drilled a free hit from Smith over wide long-on for six before Taylot launched Hogan over long-off for six before depositing Lloyd over extra cover for another maximum. Lloyd however removed Root in his second over as the left-hander, on 45, drove the ball to Bull at extra-cover.
110/5 saw Andrew Salter join Taylor who flayed Hogan to third man for four before flat-batting Lloyd to the mid-wicket ropes, followed by a deft nurdle to third man and a fierce cover drive in the penultimate over from Douthwaite. After Hogan had run out Salter, Taylor drilled successive balls from Lloyd for four to complete a 33-ball fifty before ending unbeaten on 60 as his team ended on 161/6.

SCORECARD
Defending a total of 166, Kieran Bull struck with his second delivery as he had Nick Selman smartly stumped by Tom Cullen as the opener played forward to the off-spinner. Connor Brown duly joined Billy Root and off-drove both Michael Hogan and Ruaidhri Smith for four. But the latter gained revenge later in the over as Smith edged behind with Chris Cooke making his way to the middle with his team on 12/2 after three overs.
Root found the ropes in the fifth over as he swatted Smith through backward point, whilst Cooke pulled a long hop from Smith to the boards at mid-wicket. The captain then deposited Dan Douthwaite into the enclosures at long-on for six followed by a top-edged pull over the keeper’s head for four as his team also ended the powerplays with their total on 41. Four runs later Bull struck again as he returned to the attack and ended Root’s tenure of the crease as Owen Morgan took a smart diving catch at square-leg.
Callum Taylor joined Cooke, who swatted a free hit from Douthwaite over mid-wicket for six before his new partner hooked the all-rounder for four followed by a pull for four against Jamie McIlroy. Cooke also drove Morgan over cover for four before completing a 33-ball fifty by pulling Roman Walker for four. Taylor then drilled consecutive balls from the North Walian over extra cover for four and six before being run out by Carlson for 38.
The target had become 36 from 24 balls as Joe Cooke joined his captain but the latter was soon bowled by Smith as Graham Wagg strode purposefully to the middle. Chris Cooke responded by ramping Smith for four to fine-leg as the equation became 28 off 18 balls with Hogan returning for the last two overs at the River End.
Cooke responded by depositing the evergreen seamer over long-on for six plus a trio of two’s as the target was reduced to 14 from 12 balls. He then pulled Smith for four before, on 86, losing his off stump to Smith. Andrew Salter then scrambled a single before Wagg drilled Smith through the covers for four before nurdling two through point . After a leg-bye from the first ball of the final over, Wagg ended the game by clipping Hogan to square-leg for four as Team Cooke won by 4 wickets.
Interval Report – Match 1
Glamorgan began their pre-season activities with a couple of internal T20 matches involving the entire playing squad with one team captained by Chris Cooke and the other by David Lloyd. The latter’s team were put in to bat in the first contest with the Club’s vice-captain opening with Dan Douthwaite. Andrew Salter delivered a typically frugal first over before Lloyd unfurled a rasping square-cut against Timm van der Gugten to register the summer’s first boundary.
The Dutchman made amends later in the over as Nick Selman took a smart catch at slip, diving to his right to dismiss Douthwaite. With Owen Morgan as his new partner, Lloyd then lofted Lukas Carey high over square-leg for six before cover driving the same bowler in the fifth over. Morgan then scooped van der Gugten to fine-leg for four. Lloyd then turned his attention to Marchant de Lange, clubbing the paceman for successive boundaries through mid-off and wide long-on.
Lloyd also cover drove Prem Sisdiya for four before Morgan lofted the spinner for a straight six, but the latter’s innings ended when Callum Taylor entered the attack as he was caught at deep mid-wicket by Salter. 77/2 saw the arrival of Kiran Carlson to join Lloyd who moved closer to his half-century by lofting Carey over mid-off for another crisply-struck boundary, followed later in the over by a six over long-on to complete a 40-ball fifty.
Taylor struck again with the total on 93 as Carlson holed out at long-on with Charlie Hemphrey making his way to the middle. After a series of singles, he drilled Taylor over extra-cover for four before adding a series of two’s to his tally followed by a pull for six over square-leg when Salter returned to the fray. But having made a breezy 30 he clipped Wagg to deep mid-wicket where Taylor pouched a low catch.
132/4 saw Tom Cullen join Lloyd who pulled a no-ball from de Lange for six before his new partner nurdled the Protea to third man for four as well as outside-edging him to the same location. In the closing over, Cullen also pulled van der Gugten for six before being bowled by the penultimate delivery as his team ended on 166/5 with Lloyd unbeaten on 73.
