It was good graft but we’re on the back foot - Hogan

Veteran seamer Michael Hogan took stand out figures of 3/46, but the Welsh county toiled on day two of their LV= Insurance County Championship clash against Sussex as they amassed 481/9 and a lead of 196.

Hogan admitted the bowlers were inconsistent at times but displayed 'good graft' throughout the day, but with the pitch flattening out he backed the batsman to come good in the second innings.

"The boys toiled pretty well, there was probably a bit of inconsistency at times," said Hogan. "The ball went pretty soft, it felt like we were bowling with a cabbage at times. It was good graft but we’re on the back foot, there is a lot of work to do tomorrow.

"We are behind the game a little bit. There’s definitely runs to be had, the wicket’s probably got a little better than day one but we have still got to work hard, we are 200 behind so plenty of work to do.

"Yeah, happy. I just tried to be consistent with my areas and lines, as I said it was tough graft. Yeah, happy with the way I went, it’d be nice to get a few more but happy all the same."
