Glamorgan reached 300/4 at the close of play on Day One in their Specsavers County Championship clash against Leicestershire at Sophia Gardens.
David Lloyd and Samit Patel both reached 66, with valuable contributions from Nick Selman and a resolute Kraigg Brathwaite ensuring that Glamorgan were the happier of the two sides going into the second day.
"Today was very good," said Lloyd. "After being put in it’s great to put a score on the board we can build on tomorrow.
Sometimes when it looks green and you get put in they can search for that wicket-taking ball a bit too much so you can score quite freely but they bowled very well and we battled hard to get a good score.
"We were disappointed about our performance at Worcester but as a batting unit wanted to bat time and grind the bowlers down. No one has gone on yet but Rooty and Cooky are still out there and they can do just that."
Samit Patel's brisk 66 was at odds with the attritional nature of the game, but his fluency was a valuable boost in the push for bonus points and building towards a match-winning first innings total.
"Samit’s knock was very good and handy for us, and boosted the run rate a bit and gives us some momentum. We want to build on our platform. 450+ would be very nice, especially if it turns, so we want to start well tomorrow and build on that.
"We thought it would turn, that’s why we’ve gone with two spinners, so if we can go well tomorrow we can bring them into the game.
"We’re just focusing on what we can do. Today we’ve gone about it well and we have a chance at the victory."
