Jordan eager to pin down England place

Chris Jordan hopes his impressive showing in the Twenty20 warm-up against United Arab Emirates will be enough to see him selected for the series opener against Pakistan on Thursday.
The Sussex seamer, will could face Glamorgan in all formats this season, has been part of England's touring party in the Middle East since being called up as a replacement for the injured Steven Finn during the first Test, but his run-out against UAE was his first taste of competitive action.

An unbeaten 12 with the bat, a catch, and impressive figures of 2-14 from four overs highlighted Jordan's credentials in a 79-run win, and the 27-year-old is eager to keep his place.

It can't hurt - selection will be decided on the day and hopefully what I've done today will put my name in the hat, Jordan told ecb.co.uk.

Since I've joined the tour I've just tried to get my head down and go about my business and train as hard as possible and try to improve my skill really.

It was gutting when I got injured in that New Zealand series and I've worked really hard to get back to this stage, and I don't intend on giving it up.

We're working quite hard with our bowling coach Ottis Gibson on a few new slower balls and different variations, and just improving my consistency in terms of my lines and lengths.

That's a base I can work from across all formats - luckily I was able to execute tonight and it paid off.

England made light work of their warm-up opponents, and while Pakistan will undoubtedly provide a sterner test, Jordan believes England will take plenty of confidence into the three-match series.

First of all, winning is a habit regardless of the opposition, he added.

Our key tonight was to go out there and keep some of the momentum we took from the one-day series, some of the good basics we were doing in the field and with our bowling and our batting, and just try to execute tonight and put in a solid performance. I think we came away with some good stuff tonight.

I felt a little bit rusty but thankfully the ball did come out pretty decent.

I've still got to brush up with the bat and in the field as well but you cannot substitute the rhythm of a game and I'm all the better for it today.

I felt as though I bowled quite a few wobble seam balls which tended to nip a bit and caught the batsmen on the crease, and I just tried to mix it up with my variations as well which I've been practicing in the nets.

It was a really good run out for me and all the lads who haven't played as yet on the tour as well and we're much better for it.

England will return to The SSE SWALEC in Cardiff next year for the Royal London One-Day Internationals against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Adult tickets start at £35 with further discounts in place for families and under 17s. Click here to secure your seats.
