Match Preview
So far this season in the Royal London One-Day Cup, Glamorgan have beaten the Middlesex Panthers at the SWALEC Stadium as well as Surrey in a record-breaking run-chase at Guildford, before losing last Wednesday evening by three wickets to the Notts Outlaws under the Cardiff floodlights.
The Spitfires have also won their opening two contests defeating the Durham Jets by two wickets at Canterbury, before winning a remarkable contest against Somerset at Taunton as they posted 383-7 in their 50 overs with Sam Northeast and Sam Billings each making centuries. Kent will play their third game in the competition on Tuesday, August 5
th against Surrey at The Oval and another victory for the Spitfires could see them leapfrog above Glamorgan in the table.
The most recent one-day game between the two sides was in July 2009, but the contest five years ago at the SWALEC Stadium was abandoned. The weather was kinder to both sides at Canterbury in August 2008 but Azhar Mahmood, the Pakistani all-rounder produced a virtuoso performance with bat and ball for the Spitfires, smiting 68 from 51 balls before taking 3/14 in a new ball spell which ripped the heart out of the Glamorgan batting.
In fact, Kent have won the last five List A games between the two sides, with the English county winning at Sophia Gardens in 2007 as captain Robert Key scored a fine century to win the floodlit encounter for his team.
Glamorgan's most recent one-day victory over Kent came at Canterbury in early August 2004 where Matthew Elliott compiled a masterly century and shared a match-winning stand of 112 with Matthew Maynard who made 66 off 61 balls. Rain then interrupted the contest before Glamorgan won by ten runs under the Duckworth-Lewis Method.
