After their victory in the opening Second Eleven Championship match against Somerset at Taunton Vale a fortnight ago, Glamorgan 2nd XI have maintained their unbeaten run in the competition by defeating their counterparts from Lancashire by ten wickets inside just two and a half days play at Northern CC in Crosby, Liverpool.
Glamorgan enjoyed the best of the action on the first day after the home side opted to bat first with the Welsh county restricting Lancashire to 218-8 from 96 overs. Lukas Carey produced the standout figures of the day, returning figures of 3/45 from 25 overs, whilst Josh Coughlin took 3/42 from his 15 overs. Wicket-keeper Tom Cullen took four catches whilst Prem Sisodiya and Joe Cooke also took smart catches in the slips, with the latter's one-handed catch low to his left at second slip being particularly praiseworthy.
Roman Walker duly finished off Lancashire's resistance on the second morning with the North Walian also ending with three wickets as Lancashire ended on 250. In reply, Joe Cooke and Steve Reingold then shared an opening stand of 108 with Cooke going on to score 106 with 15 fours and a six. Thanks to his efforts, Glamorgan ended the second day on 229-5, trailing by 21 runs with five wickets remaining.
On the third morning, an unbeaten 68 from Tom Cullen guided the visitors to a total of 306 from 110.4 overs and a lead of 56 with left-arm spinner Jack Morley taking the bowwling honours for Lancashire, claiming 7/59 in his 32 overs. It was then Glamorgan's bowlers who took centre-stage as Lancashire were bundled out for 64 in just 30.2 overs. With the wicket assisting the spin bowlers, Andrew salter shared the new ball with Lukas Carey, who made early inroads into the home batting by dismissing both openers in the eighth over.
Josh Coughlin then claimed two wickets in the space of three balls before Salter filleted the middle-order to finish with the commendable figures of 3/11 from 11 overs. Glamorgan required just nine runs to win with Steve Reingold and Callum Nicholls needing just seven balls to see Glamorgan to their target and their second win of the season.
