After what seems like months of waiting the 2016 fixture list has finally been unveiled and the new season is on the horizon with Leicestershire up first for Glamorgan in next year's County Championship.
Glamorgan will open their first-class campaign with two games at The SSE SWALEC against Cardiff MCCU followed by the match against Leicestershire at home on April 17th who have former Glamorgan favourite Mark Cosgrove as captain leading a team with a number of new recruits for 2016.
In a reversal of last year's opening fixture, home supporters may be given their first chance to see the club's new signing Australian right-hand batsman Nick Selman, as well as returning overseas pros Jacques Rudolph, Michael Hogan and Colin Ingram back at Glamorgan for the new campaign.
In the now regular season opening fixture Cardiff MCCU will be the club's first opponent of the season with a warm up match against the students set to take place on April 11th before predominantly Sunday starts for County Championship cricket and Friday nights for Natwest T20 blast fixtures commence.
This year Glamorgan will be hoping to make a significant impression on the shorter versions of the game and with back to back home fixtures against Essex Eagles and the Hampshire Royals at the start of the T20 blast campaign, the opportunity is there to make an early impression.
But Glamorgan will begin their T20 campaign against Gareth Batty's impressive Surrey outfit with four Friday night home games confirmed for the Blast competition as well as Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday games completing the schedule.
Furthermore Glamorgan's annual trip to Colwyn Bay is in mid-July where they will face Derbyshire in a Championship fixture on the north Wales coast, as the Peakites make their first visit to the Rhos-on-Sea ground for a Championship match since 1966. Glamorgan also host Hampshire in the 50-over competition at St.Helen's before a four-day game against Sussex at the same seaside venue in Swansea.
The Royal London One-Day Cup has had the greatest alteration since last season, to give greater focus to white ball cricket for the players, the schedule for the 50-overs games has been revamped into two blocks of four games for 2016.
International cricket also returns to The SSE SWALEC next year in what promises to be one of the most anticipated ODI Series in years. England will host Sri Lanka and Pakistan for two one-day international fixtures on 2nd July and 4th September respectively in the build up to the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy and 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup - both of which will be held in England and Wales.
