Mark Frost awarded BEM in Queen's New Years Honours List

Mark Frost, the former Glamorgan seam bowler and currently the Club’s Community and Development Manager, working jointly with Cricket Wales, has been awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List for services to cricket.

Since retiring from professional cricket Mark has worked, at various times, for the Sport Wales, the Cricket Board of Wales (as it was previously known) and, over the course of the past five years, Glamorgan County Cricket Club, in each case promoting and developing healthy recreation at grassroots level, besides promoting the wider social benefits of playing cricket.

Mark has recently spearheaded the introduction throughout Wales of All Stars Cricket, the ECB’s exciting initiative at getting more young girls and boys playing cricket. Mark has also led the way with many cricket-playing initiatives in BAME communities, as well as developing programmes using cricket as a means of integrating and unifying diverse community groups.

In addition to managing Glamorgan’s Community team and helping to develop a wide range of packages aimed at people of all ages, Mark has also championed the involvement of girls and women in playing cricket in Wales.

Ali Abdi, another one of Cricket Wales’ development officers who has worked alongside Mark in creating award-winning schemes in BAME communities in Cardiff has also been recognized in the New Years Honours List with the award of a British Empire Medal.

On hearing the announcement of these prestigious awards. Hugh Morris – Glamorgan’s Chief Executive Officer – commented “everyone at Glamorgan Cricket is thrilled and very proud that the wholehearted efforts of both Mark and Ali have been recognised in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List. Their work in promoting the game for has been outstanding and cricket throughout Wales has immensely benefitted from their tireless efforts.”
