There are four changes to the squad that travelled to Northampton last week with overseas signing Marnus Labuschagne able to replace stand-in Andy Balbirnie under Welsh Government quarantine rules around Elite Sports People.
Fellow overseas star Michael Neser has also landed in Wales but is ruled out due to the added strain caused by long distance travel on fast bowlers.
Timm van de Gugten returns to the squad after overcoming the muscle tightness which kept him out of the Northamptonshire match, while all-rounder Andrew Salter and seamer Lukas Carey make their first appearances in the County Championship squad this season after impressing for the 2nd XI.
View from the camp – Joe Cooke
“It was great to score some runs for the seconds. The side has played some really good cricket so far this season, so it’s been fun to be a part of them, but I’m very excited to come into the first team this week and hopefully I can take that form on.
“Last year was a bit of a learning curve on how to score runs in first-class cricket and about myself, but I think I’m in a better place to succeed this time around. I’ve worked hard in the winter with Matt and the coaches on my technique so hopefully that will pay off.
“Marnus is an incredible player and it will be an amazing experience to play with him and I’ll learn as much as I can.”
Injury Update:
Dan Douthwaite is ruled out with a heel impingement but along with Michael Neser will be undergoing rehab and preparation at the ground during the game.
Jamie McIlroy and Ruaidhri Smith are still both recovering from injury.
