Glamorgan’s rain-ravaged Specsavers County Championship match against Derbyshire at Derby has been abandoned as a draw with the umpires calling off play at 9.25am on the final day of the contest after overnight rain has, once again, left the outfield in an unfit state.
Just 72 overs have been bowled in this contest with complete washouts on days one, two and four, leaving all concerned frustrated by the way the weather has disrupted this contest. With Glamorgan set to bat today, opening batsman Jacques Rudolph will now have to wait until next week to continue his quest of becoming the ninth South African cricketer to reach the landmark of 20,000 first-class runs, with his current tally standing on 19,797.
With a maximum of six innings remaining this summer, Jacques needs a further 203 runs to also become only the sixth South African batsman to also complete the double of 20,000 first-class plus 10,000 in List A cricket – an achievement so far only reached by Ken McEwan, Clive Rice, Kepler Wessels, Peter Kirsten and Jimmy Cook.
