Maynard names unchanged 14-man squad for Sussex Sharks

Head Coach Matt Maynard has named an unchanged 14-man squad for Glamorgan’s penultimate home game of the Vitality Blast against Sussex Sharks tonight.

Left-arm spinner Prem Sisodiya was left out of yesterday’s match against Essex Eagles with a low-level oblique strain but is included in the squad.

All-rounder Sam Pearce retains his place after playing the last two Vitality Blast matches and has signed a one-month short-term contract with the club.

Glamorgan are in 7th place in the South Group on eight points after three wins, six loses and two no results, while Sussex Sharks are in 5th on 11 points but lost by 63-runs to Middlesex yesterday.

Glamorgan 14-man squad to face Sussex Sharks: Chris Cooke +*, Kiran Carlson, Dan Douthwaite, Michael Hogan, Colin Ingram, David Lloyd, Sam Pearce, Tegid Phillips, Billy Root, Andrew Salter, Prem Sisodiya, Callum Taylor, Roman Walker, James Weighell

View from the camp – Matt Maynard

“Maybe with Kiran and Dave at the top, we’ve found a solution and hopefully that combo can finish the competition strongly with three more games and give us hope going into next years.

“There are some promising signs, I like the way Roman Walker has come into that Timm van der Gugten role with a wicket in the second over, he’s highly competitive, and Sam Pearce has done well.

“In resting Timm, we had an eye on Sunday’s County Championship match with a four-and-a-half-hour bus trip up and back, as one of our main fast bowlers. The same with Michael Hogan and Michael Neser - we want them fresh for Sunday.

“The schedule is a tough thing to organise, it’s no better and no worse than it used to be but it is a big work-load. But players have come in and Roman Walker has put his hand up to be given the new ball in the 50-over competition with Timm van der Gugten away, that’s the sort of hunger you want to represent the daffodil.”

The opposition – Sussex Sharks

Sussex have named a 13-man squad for the trip to Sophia Gardens tonight.

A total of eight Sussex players are currently self-isolating and therefore unavailable for selection. This includes Henry Crocombe, Delray Rawlins and Ollie Robinson.

Chris Jordan is recovering from a groin injury, while George Garton is part of England’s squad for the current Royal London ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Sussex 13-man squad: Luke Wright (captain), Will Beer, Ravi Bopara, Oli Carter, Mitch Claydon, Travis Head (overseas, Australia), Archie Lenham, Stuart Meaker, Tymal Mills, Phil Salt, Aaron Thomason, Harrison Ward, David Wiese (overseas, South Africa)

Head-to-head – Glamorgan v Sussex Sharks

The Welsh county have won three of their seven T20 matches against the Sharks at Cardiff, with the 2017 match also being washed out after just eight overs were possible.

Glamorgan’s most recent victory over the Sharks in a T20 game at Cardiff came in 2016 after David Lloyd had struck a typically belligerent 81 before Tim van der Gugten claimed 4/17.
