Glamorgan travel to Old Deer Park in Richmond on Friday, July 8th for their next match in the NatWest T20 Blast with the Welsh county meeting Middlesex at the home of London Welsh RFC in a contest due to start at 5.30pm.
Last night’s stirring 46-run victory against the Sussex Sharks at Cardiff means that Glamorgan are still in second place in the South Group, but now only two points behind leaders Gloucestershire who play Kent at Bristol on Friday evening and have played two more matches than the Welsh county.
The rousing win over the Sharks also further improved Glamorgan’s net run rate to +1.674 and should Gloucestershire lose to Kent, a victory for Glamorgan will see them return to top spot by virtue of having the best net run rate in the entire competition, besides setting up a mouth-watering clash on Sunday at The SSE SWALEC between the top two teams in the group.
Glamorgan have won their last five Twenty20 games against Middlesex, including the contest at the SSE SWALEC last summer when Glamorgan won by four runs after Jacques Rudolph had made a composed 60 at the top of the order, before his bowlers produced a miserly performance to thwart the visitor’s attempts at chasing a target of 170.
This will be the fourth time that Glamorgan have played at Richmond, and the Welsh county have been victorious on their last two visits, winning by six wickets in 2014 after Jim Allenby had posted a century during an opening stand of 136 with Jacques Rudolph which laid the foundations of Glamorgan’s emphatic victory.
Glamorgan also won at Richmond by four wickets in 2011 in a contest completely dominated by the spin bowlers with Dean Cosker taking 3/11 as the home side were bundled out for just 102, before Alviro Petersen struck a match-winning 72. Middlesex’s sole victory over Glamorgan in Twenty20 cricket came at Richmond in 2010 when Eoin Morgan blasted an unbeaten 79 whilst Australian Adam Gilchrist weighed in with some hefty blows to see the home side to a comprehensive victory.
